The Scholarship

Although the Scholarship is a separate entity from the Alumni Association, we support what they are doing over there. Here is a brief history of the Scholarship and how you can contribute.

 History:

Beginning in about 2010, charter member Bob Hoch began a conversation with several brothers, including Dennis Sinnott, Rich Marini, Mark Guarini, Allen Marx, John Fusco and Frank Oliva, to consider raising funds to create an endowed scholarship at Oneonta State. The scholarship would honor the sacrifice of our brothers Robert “Chico” Cicio and Kevin Coulman. Both were killed in action while serving in the U.S. Marine Corp; Chico on April 16, 1968 in Khe Sanh, Vietnam, Kevin on October 23, 1983 in Beirut, Lebanon.

The Scholarship was created on April 30, 2011 and reached the endowment level on September 24, 2012. At SUNY Oneonta, a scholarship becomes endowed when the value of the annuity reaches $25,000-. Once a scholarship becomes endowed, it exists in perpetuity. As of the first quarter of 2021, less than ten years after its inception, our Scholarship has become the largest endowed group scholarship in the history of the college and is now valued at over $166,000-. Last year (2020) we provided annual scholarships to two students. In the very near future, the Scholarship will be providing annual scholarships to four students. To date, there have been 144 unique donors to the scholarship. ITK’s brothers and friends truly have something to be proud of here.
